Black, White and Stunning

For months now, I have been drawn to black (or a very dark grey) and white.  To me, it almost feels slightly sophisticated and yet incredibly relaxing at the same time.   It represents clean and simple living - perfect for both the seaside or in the middle of a busy city.

Interior designer Pamela Makin from Les Interieurs really knows how to make this palette work.  Her signature style is easily recognisable; with her use of clean lines and a unique knack of adding one off pieces that she sourced from around the world.  Her choice of lighting fixtures are always a stand out- check out the lighting in the bedroom!  Simple, functional and stunning.

Lest We Forget

Take a minute to watch this ... I felt it was an inspirational way to salute our diggers...

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, commemorated on 25 April every year to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War 1.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Bug Bug Go Away

For the past fortnight I have been fighting off and on with this lovely flu bug and today I actually feel kinda normal (fingers crossed!!)... mind you I felt like this last week ... and was short lived before it came back again with a vengeance - knocking me flat again.

The best remedy ... REST (something I at times find extremely difficult to do), lots of sleep, chicken and vegetable soup (special thanks to my sister - the soup was delicious), a good book or an IPAD loaded with movies.

Bedrooms are more than just places of sleep, relaxation and sexual adventures.  They are also a great place to read the Sunday papers with a circling aroma of coffee beans.   Having spent quite a few hours in mine lately, I have come to realise that they also serve as a place of soothing, nurturing and a place where you should feel pampered, cosy and comfortable.   There's nothing like snuggling up with fresh sheets.

So, here's my tip as we come into bug season ... open the window, crank up the stereo, get the vacuum cleaner out and start cleaning and de-cluttering your bedroom like never before.  Ensure fresh linen is at the ready ... get the throws, blankets dry cleaned and treat your pillows and duvets to a couple of hours of sun.

Hate to say it but ... you may also want to check you have enough tissues, vapour rub, aspirin and cold and flu tabs on hand as well!   And if you don't have a sister like mine ... make some chicken and vegetable soup and freeze it for later.

Wake Up - It's Monday

You know when you hear a voice and you just say, "WOW ... who is that?" (ha ha - I'm sounding like Seal on the Voice!!) ... well that is exactly what I said when I heard Laura Mvula sing Green Garden.   What an invigorating ways to start the week.

Vignette Queen comes to Sydney

Stylist, photographer and shopper extraordinaire, Kara Rosenlund together with her darling hubby, Timothy - oops and can't forget Frankie the travelling wares caravan (so cute) opened our eyes to their world at  The School  in Sydney on Tuesday night for a special Vignette Class.

It was so much fun ... and it had nothing to do with the White Rum cocktail Megan served us upon our arrival.

Kara is truly amazing and she shared her extraordinary styling talents with such enthusiasm.  You couldn't help but love watching her in action.  Have a look at her blog Kara Rosenlund and watch the vignette video ... it will have you reworking your mantel in seconds!

You ARE Beautiful ...

What better way to start my blog ...

This afternoon one of my nieces (SareBare) dropped by to say hi.   "I have to show you something", she said.  Of course I was a little excited (even though I had no idea what she was going to show me).  We watched the Dove Real Beauty Sketches and I just loved it ... so I thought I would share it with you as well ... Enjoy.   PS.  Thanks Sares x
